Andrew Foukal

President & CEO

Andrew founded East Point Energy and is responsible for the business strategy and execution, as well as building and leading the team. Capitalizing on his ten years of energy development experience in utility-scale solar, and with his vision, work ethic and management skills, Andrew is building East Point Energy into a leading energy storage firm in the United States.

In 2009, Andrew joined as one of the first employees of HelioSage Energy, a utility-scale solar project development firm. Andrew rose through the ranks quickly, and was instrumental in developing HelioSage’s 350 megawatts of contracted solar before the company was acquired by Coronal Energy in 2015. 

Andrew holds a BS in Physics from Bates College and a Masters in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Virginia.

When Andrew isn’t fully immersed in the world of energy storage and battery projects, he likes to spend as much time as possible in the mountains or on the water with his wife, three young boys, and dog.

Chris Walmsley

Chief Operating Officer

Prior to joining East Point Energy as a founding member, Chris helped start HelioSage Energy in 2007. Chris led the utility-scale solar project development firm as President and CEO until the company was sold in 2015 to Coronal Energy. Chris and his partners navigated tremendous growth at HelioSage, establishing the firm as a trusted development partner in the solar industry for a number of the country’s largest institutional investors, major equipment vendors and utilities. 

For many years, Chris served on the Board and was the President of Computers4Kids, a local non-profit, after-school technology mentoring program for disadvantaged youth.

Chris holds a BA in History from the University of Virginia.

When Chris is not thinking about battery storage projects, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends on the water.

Pierce Walmsley

Chief Financial Officer

Pierce has over 20 years of executive experience in many different industries and on two continents.

Prior to joining East Point Energy as a founding member, Pierce served as the CFO and on the Board of Coronal Energy after Coronal purchased HelioSage in 2015. Pierce joined HelioSage as CFO in September of 2008. Along with fiduciary responsibility for Coronal, Pierce’s primary responsibility was directing accounting and project finance. Pierce negotiated a series of strategic agreements with some of the country’s largest and most active institutional investors, including several Fortune 500 energy companies. Pierce was also instrumental in negotiating the sale of projects to buyers and, ultimately, the sale of HelioSage to Coronal.

Pierce holds a BA in Economics and Psychology from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.

Pierce enjoys family time, golf, and fishing when he’s not in the office.

Nelson Teague

General Counsel

With a background in corporate law and structured finance transactions, Nelson has been engaged in renewable energy development for over fifteen years. Prior to joining East Point Energy as a founding member, Nelson helped co-found HelioSage, the utility-scale solar project development firm sold to Coronal Energy in 2015. While at Coronal Energy, he served as Vice President – Legal where he supported the company’s development efforts in Charlottesville.

Nelson left Coronal Energy in the summer of 2018. Prior to that, Nelson worked as the Director of Project Transactions with Greenlight Energy, Inc., managing and negotiating a contract suite that became one of the country’s largest wind energy project pipelines. Following the sale of Greenlight Energy to BP Alternative Energy Services in 2006, Nelson joined BP where he led the development, project financing, and construction of the 300 megawatt Cedar Creek Wind Farm, a $480 million facility selling power to Xcel Energy under a long term power purchase agreement. 

Nelson holds a BA in Politics from Washington and Lee University and his law degree from the TC Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond.

When Nelson in not in the office supporting the development team, he’s likely to be riding a mountain bike or a tractor at his farm.

Tyler Cline

VP of Project Development

As VP of Project Development, Tyler is responsible for overseeing the development of East Point Energy’s front-of-the-meter, standalone energy storage projects throughout the United States. Tyler has a background in utility-scale, renewable energy origination and project development.

Tyler began his career in renewable energy with Coronal Energy, where he facilitated the development of utility-scale solar and solar-plus storage projects throughout the United States. Following the acquisition of Coronal by Ørsted, Tyler shifted his focus to origination, securing long-term revenue opportunities for Ørsted’s onshore wind and solar portfolio in the United States. Prior to his career in clean energy, Tyler spent several years in the United States Army as an infantry officer. 

Tyler holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.

When Tyler is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, climbing, hiking, and traveling.

Anne Eschenroeder

VP of Talent & Administration

Anne serves as VP of Talent & Administration for the East Point Energy team. She is responsible for training, managing, and building East Point Energy’s world-class development team, as well as defining and maintaining East Point’s collaborative, entrepreneurial company culture. She brings with her over a decade of management experience, having helped to build numerous successful businesses and teams.

Prior to joining East Point Energy in 2019, Anne had an extensive career in several entrepreneurial ventures, serving in executive and operational roles in agriculture and food systems organizations in Oregon, California, New York, and Virginia, including running her own successful farm in upstate New York. 

Anne holds a BA in Anthropology and Environmental Thought & Practice from the University of Virginia. She also holds a Certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the University of California, Santa Cruz’s Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.

When Anne isn’t orchestrating order in the office, she can often be found riding a bike, paddling on a Virginia river, enjoying a swimming hole with her dog, or munching on something from her garden.

Eric Conner

Vice President of EPC

Eric serves as VP of EPC at East Point Energy, responsible for leading and managing the engineering, procurement, and construction of all energy storage projects under development and acquired by the company.

Eric’s career blends nearly twenty years of engineering, construction, and project management experiences related to the planning and execution of complex, multimillion dollar power projects.  The majority of Eric’s career focused on gas turbine and hydroelectric projects with the global EPC firm Fluor, before he transitioned to Dominion Energy to lead a team in the development and execution of gas turbine, liquified natural gas, small modular reactor, and battery energy storage projects (BESS), including bringing the company’s first utility-scale BESS to commercial operation in VA in 2021.

Eric received his MS in Civil/Structural Engineering from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) and Project Management Professional (PMP).  He is also an active member in the Toastmasters organization.

Outside of the office, Eric enjoys trying to keep up with his three active kiddos, catching live music with his wife, and sneaking in a round of golf when possible.

Matt Cousins

VP of Business Development

As VP of Business Development, Matt is responsible for acquisition, divestment, and origination activities for East Point Energy’s front-of-the-meter, standalone energy storage portfolio. Matt has a background in utility-scale, energy storage acquisition, business development, and finance. 

Matt began his career in renewable energy with Dominion Energy, where he led the acquisition of the company’s first utility-scale energy storage projects.  Following his time at Dominion, Matt led the US-based electric utility business development strategy for Wartsila’s energy storage EPC and integration services business. Prior to his career in clean energy, Matt advised M&A clients at Harris Williams across energy, power, and infrastructure end markets and spent over eleven years flying MH-60S helicopters in the US Navy.

Matt holds a BS in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, an MBA from The College of William & Mary, and an MS in Accounting from the University of Connecticut.

When Matt is not in the office, he enjoys spending time with his family, trail running, hiking, and fly fishing.

Victor Lattari

Project & Safety Manager

Victor Lattari is East Point’s Project & Safety Manager, working in tandem with East Point’s Vice President of EPC to enable engineering, procurement, and construction capabilities at the company. Victor is serving in this role as a Secondee: an employee of East Point’s parent company Equinor, bringing his expertise and experience to work as part of the East Point team for a period of time, supporting in continuing to grow our team and opportunities. 

Victor started his professional journey in the oil and gas business, and for more than 15 years he worked with the shipbuilding of oil and gas platforms around the world. He has worked at shipyards in Singapore, China, South Korea, and Abu Dhabi, among others. His focus shifted to the renewable energy business 6 years ago, when he started working with the development and construction of solar and wind projects in Latin America.  

Victor holds a BE in Electrical Engineering, a Postgraduate Diploma in Safety Engineering, and an MBA in Project Management from various universities in Brazil. 

Outside of the office, Victor loves traveling to unknown destinations with his wife, playing tennis, and watching NFL games.

Joey Ranney

Business Development Manager

Joey Ranney is East Point’s Business Development Manager, serving as commercial and financial project lead for M&A projects, and late-stage developments through FID and COD. Joey is serving in this role as a Secondee: an employee of East Point’s parent company Equinor, bringing his expertise and experience to work as part of the East Point team for a period of time, supporting in continuing to grow our team and opportunities. 

Joey’s career with Equinor has spanned almost 12 years supporting the business in Europe, Brazil, Canada, and the US. His most recent role was as Project Manager for the corporate Acquisitions and Divestments team. Prior to that role, Joey worked as a commercial manager and an M&A analyst for business development projects. 

 Joey holds a BA in Economics from the University of Colorado Denver, a Master in Energy Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, and a Master in Petroleum Economics and Management from The IFP School.  

When Joey is not reading up on energy markets, he enjoys the outdoors and spending time with his family.

Hudson Farren

Business Development Manager

As a business development manager, Hudson is focused on M&A for East Point. Hudson began his career at Newmont Corporation conducting ore control geology in both an open pit and underground setting. While working for Newmont, Hudson was responsible for all ore control and highwall mapping activities, as well as designing and running drill programs to further define the mineral resource and reserve.  In 2022, Hudson pivoted to Investment Banking working for UBS in their Industrials Group in New York City. Hudson advised M&A clients in the building products vertical. 

Hudson holds a B.S. in Geology from Sewanee: The University of the South, an M.S. in Economic Geology from The University of Georgia, and an M.B.A. from The University of Virginia Darden School of Business. 

Outside of the office, Hudson enjoys playing golf, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and skiing.

Alexander Balsamo

Financial Analyst

Alexander focuses on the financial modeling of East Point Energy’s battery storage projects. In addition to Alexander’s modeling responsibilities, he brings an expertise in analytics to East Point Energy with his Masters in Applied Physics and Computer Science.  

Prior to joining East Point Energy, Alexander worked as a Senior Marketing Science Analyst at Analytic Partners, as well as the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory and Jefferson Laboratory collaborations. In these roles, he helped to create and implement data acquisition pipelines and modeling efforts to produce actionable insights.  

Alexander holds a BS in Physics from the University of Richmond, and his Master’s degree in Applied Physics and Computer Science from Christopher Newport University.

Dave Ark

Director of Accounting

Dave serves as Director of Accounting for the East Point Energy.  He brings creative problem-solving skills to the team and is dedicated to building accurate, compliant, and efficient accounting systems.

Prior to joining East Point Energy, Dave served in a variety of accounting and finance roles for a range of industries.  He guided the accounting and finance functions of a design-build construction firm; held budgeting, forecasting, and reporting roles at a large public utility; and provided tax, accounting, and consulting services to real estate development and construction clients as a certified public accountant.

Dave earned a BS in Industrial Technology from Appalachian State University.  He also holds a CPA license from the State of Kentucky.

When Dave isn’t entrenched in accounting matters, he enjoys hiking, biking, boating, and camping with his wife, two boys, and two dogs.

Deb Launi

Staff Accountant

Deb serves as Staff Accountant for East Point Energy.  She has over 35 years of accounting experience in public accounting and in private industry.

Prior to joining East Point Energy, Deb was a project accountant and payroll manager for a clean energy company in Charlottesville.  Before that, she was a staff accountant for a real estate developer, and a staff accountant at a public accounting firm, where she worked with a variety of small businesses. 

Deb earned her BS in Business Management from the University of Maryland.

Deb enjoys long walks with her husband and dog, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Renae Avallone

Staff Accountant

Renae serves as a Staff Accountant for East Point Energy.  She brings an eagerly helpful attitude, problem solving skills, and a true love for numbers to her position. 

Prior to joining East Point Energy, Renae was in Financial Operations for a hospital system in Northern Virginia. She has also worked for multiple non-profit organizations supporting the military, as well as roles with state and county governments. She enjoyed other opportunities to volunteer her time and Accounting skills to her local school’s PTO helping them to implement tracking for expenses and fundraising. 

Renae earned a BS in Accounting from Sullivan University in Louisville, KY.   

When she is not crunching numbers, Renae enjoys spending time with her 2 grown daughters, watching college football, and being creative.

Ignacio Uria

Director of Asset Management

An energy & sustainability executive with a deep technical background, Ignacio is the Director of Asset Management at East Point.  His career has spanned 4 continents and several technologies, with a predominance of wind and storage, in which he led product management, project delivery, business development, and services operations.  

He finds fun in learning and teaching, and in developing practical solutions rooted in technical developments. His original goal was to foster renewables and now that they are generally accessible, he is concentrating on facilitating a deeper penetration to the grid via deployment, integration, and management of energy storage assets.  

 

Focusing on people, products, planet, with a Master’s in Energy Engineering, an Executive Energy MBA, and a BatteryMBA, he’s leading the charge to make sure we advance to a more sustainable energy system.

Morgan Afshar

Procurement Manager

Morgan Afshar is East Point’s Procurement manager, working in the EPC organization.  Morgan brings 16 years of Supply Chain management experience for several Fortune 500 companies, including Cisco and Caterpillar.  In addition, Morgan has worked in Supply Chain consulting and has been a lecturer of Supply Chain Management at 3 universities.

Morgan has earned an MBA from the University of Manchester, in the UK, and a BA in Management from the University of California at San Diego.  

Outside of work, Morgan enjoys travelling and learning about new cultures.  He has travelled to 54 countries and has lived in 6.

Adam Hosier

Power Market Analyst
As a power market analyst, Adam is responsible for performing power market data analytics, conducting market research, and leveraging operational asset performance to support the successful development and deployment of renewable energy storage solutions.
Prior to joining East Point Energy, Adam pursued his Ph.D. in Physics from Clemson University and worked as a Guest Researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology where he performed fundamental atomic physics research. His main achievement was pioneering the development of a new technique to measure the nuclear charge radius of heavy elements. In this role, he developed the critical analysis software to be used in various research groups that wish to use this technique for future measurements and coordinated collaborations with international colleagues. Outside of work, Adam enjoys spending time with his family and dogs.

Maggie Howe

Director of Project Development

Maggie manages and mentors East Point’s team of Project Developers, in addition to leading campaigns for several key East Coast markets.  Maggie’s work in overseeing the development process benefits the company’s project pipeline and overall productivity. 

Prior to joining East Point, Maggie worked as a contractor for the EPA, where she supported oil spill prevention and response programs. For several years, she also ran an environmentally focused summer camp in Brevard, NC, serving over 1200 children each season. She is passionate about both protecting the environment and facilitating experiences that inspire an authentic connection to the natural world, which in turn motivates us to be good stewards of our planet. 

Maggie holds a BS in Science, Technology, and International Affairs, focusing on environmental and energy policy, from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. She also holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Flagler School of Business. 

Outside of the office, Maggie loves to cook with seasonal ingredients – preferably from the backyard – and have adventures outside with her family.

Scott Connuck

Business Development Manager

Scott is responsible for mergers & acquisitions in several key markets for East Point Energy. From 2018-2024, Scott also worked on East Point’s project development team and was policy manager.  Prior to joining East Point Energy in 2018, Scott served as a Junior Research Associate with Taylor Research Group. In this role, he worked on historical research projects to assist environmental litigation on federal, state, and local levels. 

Scott graduated from the University of Virginia. When Scott isn’t in the office or on the road developing battery storage projects, you will likely find him hiking in the woods, in search of exciting wildlife.

Tom DeAngelis

Senior Development Engineer

Tom focuses on the engineering, design, interconnection, permitting, and technical risk assessment of East Point Energy’s energy storage projects. Tom served as the lead development engineer for East Point’s Dry Bridge Energy Center, which was sold to Dominion Energy in 2021, as well as Yadkins Energy Center, which was sold to Aypa Power in 2022. Prior to joining East Point Energy, Tom worked with Integrated Environmental Solutions in Dublin, Ireland where he helped buildings achieve LEED certification. 

Tom holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia.

When not in the office or in the classroom, Tom enjoys running, playing pick-up basketball, or perpetually struggling to learn guitar.

Compton Donohue

Development Engineer

Compton manages the interconnection of battery storage projects through the engineering, design, and permitting process. Prior to joining the East Point Energy team, Compton worked as a Materials Science Engineer for a waste to energy tire recycling start-up, where he worked on industrial and process engineering projects.

Compton holds a BS in Materials Science and Engineering from North Carolina State University.

Kira Bartlett

Development Engineer

As a Development Engineer, Kira supports the design and progression of BESS projects in multiple energy markets. Prior to working at East Point Energy, Kira worked in the microbiology field, focusing on product development and scale-up. Kira graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Biosystems Engineering and a focus on Bioprocessing.

Outside of the office, Kira enjoys biking, running, spending time in the garden, and reading.

Kyle Jenkins

Development Engineer

Kyle focuses on the design and interconnection of East Point’s energy storage projects and coordinates engineering, technical risk assessments, and permitting with stakeholders and industry partners. Prior to joining the East Point Energy team, Kyle worked as a Cyber Transport Supervisor within the United States Air Force.   After his time in the Air Force, Kyle transitioned to the renewables field and worked at Swinerton as an Engineering Coordinator, supporting the construction of utility-scale solar projects. 

Kyle holds BS and MS degrees in Renewable Energy Engineering from the Oregon Institute of Technology.

Outside of the office, Kyle enjoys gardening, snowboarding, and traveling.

Mat Ryan

Development Engineer

Mat engages in the design and interconnection of battery storage projects. Previous to working at East Point Energy, Mat worked as a consultant in Civil Engineering where he designed and managed commercial / residential land development projects throughout Colorado and Virginia.

Mat holds a BS in Geographic Information Science from Arizona State University.

In his free time, Mat enjoys spending time with his family, hiking, mountain biking and skiing.

Chris Meyer

Project Developer

As a Project Developer, Chris supports East Point Energy’s existing campaigns and engages in new market research.  Prior to joining the team, Chris founded and ran an organization focusing on sustainable silvo agriculture in Panama; advocated in UN climate change negotiations for the Environmental Defense Fund; and led a non-profit working on residential energy efficiency, electrification, and rooftop solar installations in Virginia. 

Chris holds an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and a BBA in Finance from the University of Portland. 

When not working, Chris enjoys spending time with his family at their farm with its burgeoning chestnut tree orchard, coaching soccer, hiking, and brewing tasty beer.

Tyler Rynne

Project Developer

Tyler contributes to the growth of East Point’s development pipeline, exploring new markets and cultivating industry partnerships, as a Project Developer.  Before joining East Point, Tyler worked as a project manager for Great Sky Solar, managing and designing residential solar systems. 

Tyler holds a Bachelor’s in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, with minors in Environmental Economics and Global Sustainability. 

Outside of the office, Tyler can be found trail running, skiing, or listening to live music around Charlottesville.

Will Frost

Project Developer

As a project developer, Will is responsible for ushering projects from site control to a shovel-ready state, and will expand East Point’s development pipeline to include new markets.  Prior to joining East Point, Will worked as an Analytical Laboratory Chemist supporting the AstraZeneca drug pipeline and as an Environmental Consultant supporting federal sustainability projects. His most recent experience was serving as the lead for the COVID-19 Information Management Section within the Department of Health and Human Services office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response. In this role he led the coordination of communication efforts between front line medical responders and high-level government leadership. 

Will holds BAs in Chemistry and Economics from Bucknell University and an MS in Environmental Sciences and Policy from John’s Hopkins University.

Benjamin Hadlock

Project Developer

Benjamin is a Project Developer who assists with existing projects and works to expand East Point’s development pipeline. Prior to joining East Point, Benjamin worked as a change management consultant in Washington D.C., helping federal clients develop, design, and implement organizational strategy plans. 

Benjamin holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Government from Centre College.

Outside the office, Benjamin enjoys spending time with his friends, exploring Virginia’s historic neighborhoods, playing golf, and keeping up with all things related to Detroit Sports.

Brad Greene

Project Developer

Brad works in primarily in the ERCOT and mid-Atlantic energy markets, especially on mid- to late-stage project maturation. Prior to joining East Point Energy, Brad served as a Materials & Process Engineer for Pratt & Whitney. He helped scale production lines for healthcare, energy, and aerospace products and researched novel manufacturing techniques.

Brad holds Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Virginia in Engineering Science as well as Physics, and a Master’s in Philosophy, Science, & Religion from the University of Edinburgh.

When he’s not at the office, Brad might be found volunteering with community causes, tinkering with computer or vehicle projects at home, or hiking to a swimming hole or camping spot in the Blue Ridge.

Elisha Kiser

Project Developer

As a Project Developer, Elisha is responsible for ushering projects from site control to a shovel-ready state and will expand East Point’s development pipeline to include new markets. Prior to joining East Point, Elisha worked as a Program Manager for Network Towers building out their tower portfolio. In this role, she led the site development team from site acquisition through tower construction.

Elisha holds a BS in Biology from University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown.

Shanna Lovaglio

HR Manager

Shanna is the HR Manager for East Point Energy.  She brings over a decade of experience in secondary education and a commitment to environmentalism to the team. 

Prior to joining East Point, Shanna had a vibrant career as a high school teacher at Western Albemarle High School. She taught a variety of courses and helped create and lead the Environmental Literature, Law, & Policy class, the culminating experience for seniors in the school’s Environmental Studies Academy.  She enjoyed supporting students in their exploration of literature, developing their writing skills, and identifying their future life goals. Shanna facilitates the smooth day-to-day operation of the East Point office and loves supporting the synergy of East Point’s diverse team.   

Shanna earned her BA in History and MT in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Virginia.  Recently, she received her SHRM-CP certification to help support East Point’s growing team.

Josh Collins

IT Manager

Josh is responsible for the management of IT resources and liaising with partners to meet East Point Energy’s IT needs.  In addition to resource management, Josh brings an expertise in systems and data security.  Prior to joining East Point Energy, Josh served in various roles supporting our nation’s defense and intelligence partners.  He helped implement one of the first application development pipelines in the sector.  He also led multiple cloud adoption initiatives for high-impact projects. 

Josh holds a BS in Integrated Science & Technology from James Madison University with concentrations in Telecommunications, Information Management, and Environmental Science. 

Outside of the office, Josh enjoys spending time with his family, working on DIY projects, and the occasional round of golf.
