Lynchburg city council approve 2 energy storage permits

City Councilors in Lynchburg approved siting agreements for James Energy Center and Quarry Energy Center, which finalizes the projects local discretionary permitting process. The Councilors voted 7-0 on both projects, which will be the first battery energy storage system (BESS) projects to be permitted in Lynchburg.

“This partnership with the City of Lynchburg is indicative of the relationships we intend to build with local communities for all of our projects.” – Chris Meyer, East Point Project Developer of the two Lynchburg projects. Chris Meyer collaborated with the City’s Planning Department and Attorney’s office to negotiate the Siting Agreements. 

The siting agreements will provide the city of Lynchburg with capital payments once the project construction begins and after it’s operational. Additionally, it will provide support to Lynchburg’s Fire Department for new equipment and trainings related to these projects.
