Shands Energy Storage Project Reaches Commercial Operation

Dominion Energy has announced that its 15.7-megawatt (MW) / 62.8-megawatt-hour (MWh) Shands Energy Storage project is now operational in Sussex County, Virginia. The project is capable of providing electricity to over 3,700 homes and businesses. Developed by East Point Energy, then constructed and operated by Dominion, Shands represents a significant step forward in strengthening grid reliability and providing cost effective electricity to Dominion customers.

“Dominion Energy is proud to announce that the Shands Energy Storage project has hit substantial completion,” said Brandon Martin, Director of Generation Development. “We’re excited to add this utility-scale facility to our growing energy storage fleet. Energy storage is an important part of Virginia’s ‘all-of-the-above’ mix for reliable, affordable and increasingly clean energy.”

“Shands is a great example of how partnerships can offer innovative solutions for the future of our electric grid. We’re excited to see the project online and look forward to it serving the community,” said Andrew Foukal, CEO of East Point Energy.
